Government
In Mississippi, we have long been plagued by an imbalance of power in state government. Our state's executive branch is far too weak in authority for the effective, efficient management of the affairs of the government. Mississippi Republicans favor strengthening the role of the executive in government, by, among other things, granting to the Governor the authority to appoint all judges of the Mississippi Court of Appeals and the Mississippi Supreme Court, more authority over Executive agencies, and by granting the Governor the actual line-item veto authority on appropriations bills that we believe the Mississippi Constitution intended the Governor to have.
