Welfare
When the current welfare program was conceived, it was intended to provide temporary assistance to people in times of need. Unfortunately, the program has developed into one that perpetuates poverty and dependence – stifling hope, discouraging initiative, and undermining the family. We affirm the ideal of a mechanism to assist people in times of need, and strongly support measures designed to reform the welfare system so it functions as originally intended.

Welfare policy should be designed to provide a safety net for families. Unfortunately, for any Americans welfare has become a way of life. We support welfare reform measures that strive to assist welfare recipient in becoming productive citizens by requiring them to work and limiting the length of benefits.

It is the responsibility of parents to support their children. We support expansion of privatized collection of delinquent child support, and we applaud the recent passage of legislation to deny state licenses and certificates to individuals who fail to pay child support.

Through sanctioning, welfare policy should discourage irresponsible behavior, and prohibit further payment for illegitimate births.
