Welfare

Mississippi Republicans believe welfare and public assistance spending should provide temporary assistance to people in times of need, not create a culture of poverty and dependence – stifling hope, discouraging initiative, and undermining the family. We affirm the ideal of a mechanism to assist people in times of need, and strongly support measures designed to reform the welfare system so it functions as originally intended. We support reforms including work requirements, limiting the length of benefits, and discouraging irresponsible behavior.
