THOMPSON CHARGES JUNKET TO TAXPAYERS

Luxury air travel: $10,000 per hour
Stay at the posh five-star Caneel Bay Resort for you, your wife, and your congressional cronies: $1,100 per room per night
Fleecing the taxpayers and then fibbing to them about it: Priceless

Congressman Bennie Thompson spends taxpayer with the eagerness of a kid in a candy store. He's one of the most lavish spenders in Washington. This time, his extravagance with taxpayer dollars was for his own Easter weekend junket with his wife, staff and ten fellow members of Congress.

First, Congressman Thompson and company toured Mexico and Honduras. After leaving there, they paid a visit to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where they stayed at the pricey, five-star Caneel Bay Resort. After their junket to the Caribbean, the group made yet another stop in Key West.

Yes, the hard-earned money of taxpayers from Mississippi and the rest of the country was used to fund a vacation to the beaches of the Caribbean for several members of Congress. Thompson has well-earned a reputation for having little regard for taxpayer dollars, but he’s usually not so shameless as to spend our money on himself!

When asked about this stay at the lavishly expensive Caneel Bay Resort, a spokeswoman said the Congressman paid the “government rate.” However, a call to the reservations department of the resort revealed Caneel Bay does not offer “government rates.”

Incredible. The Democrats pledged honesty in government after they took control of Congress. In an online statement about their agenda, the Democrats said, “Our goal is to restore accountability, honesty, and openness at all levels of the government. To do so, we will create and enforce rules that demand the highest ethics from every public servant.”

Apparently Congressman Thompson did not get the memo.
