MSGOP WELCOMES SENATOR JAMES SHANNON WALLEY

Leakesville, Miss. - The Mississippi Republican Party announces Senate majority as Senator James Shannon Walley of Leakesville has qualified for re-election as a Republican. Walley was elected in 2003 to represent District 43, which includes George, Greene, Stone, and Wayne counties.

When asked why he switched, Walley said, "When I got to the Senate, I found myself voting more with the Republicans than with members of my own party. I realized that my beliefs were more in line with the Republican Party, and I need to stay true to myself and what is best for my district.."

Walley joins the ranks of many conservative Democrats who have become Republicans. "This is proof that conservative Democrats continue to find themselves homeless in their own party," said Brad White, Chairman of Candidate Recruitment for the Mississippi Republican Party. "As a result, Senator Walley and many others before him are coming home to the Republican Party."
