MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATOR NOLAN METTETAL SWITCHES TO GOP

Sardis, Miss – State Sen. Nolan Mettetal, who has served in the Mississippi Legislature for over 12 years as a Democrat, has announced that he is switching to the Republican Party. Mettetal made his decision public Tuesday night at the Panola County Legislative Reception in Jackson.

“I am pleased to find a new home in the Republican Party,” Mettetal said. “There is no longer a place among the Democrats for conservatives like myself.”

Mettetal said, “They say folks judge you by the company you keep. I feel I am in good company with the likes of Gov. Haley Barbour and Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant. Together, we will continue to make progress for State Senate District 10.”

“We welcome Sen. Mettetal to the Republican Party,” Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Jim Herring said. “He has been an unfailing vote for conservative principles in the Mississippi State Senate. As a Republican, he will continue to represent the people of Panola and Tate Counties in a positive manner.”

Herring added, “Sen. Mettetal is the latest in a line of conservative Democrats who have been run out of their own party. The Republican Party will continue to be a safe haven for those that believe in the conservative values that have made our country great.”

State Senate District 10, which Mettetal represents, covers most of Panola and Tate Counties. Mettetal, 62, is married to Kay Mettetal. They have two children, son Cary Nolan Mettetal (wife Carla) and daughter Kim Mettetal Reed (husband Randall Reed), and three grandchildren, Nolan Paul Reed, Gracie Kaye Mettetal, and Julian Mettetal.
