JACKSON, Miss. – Yesterday, the Mississippi Republican Party State Executive
Committee voted to endorse Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Dawn Beam in her reelection
campaign to remain on the state’s highest court from the Southern District.
“Justice Beam has a long track record of issuing conservative rulings from the court and
ensuring that our state constitution is upheld, that Mississippi values are preserved, and
that our state’s laws are interpreted, not re-written from the bench,” said Mississippi
Republican Party Chairman Mike Hurst. “Justice Beam’s approach to cases will
continue to ensure that all Mississippians will receive justice from our highest court.”
In 2002, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi Henry T. Wingate
declared Mississippi law prohibiting endorsements in non-partisan races
unconstitutional, in violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Founded in 1956, the Mississippi Republican Party works to elect conservatives to local,
state, and federal offices. The Mississippi Republican Party believes in preserving
individual liberties, resisting the overreach of big government intervention, protecting the
rights of citizens outlined in our country’s founding documents, and increasing
prosperity for all Mississippians.
